Why I Chose Brainspotting & How It’s Changed the Way I Help Others

When I first learned about Brainspotting, I felt an immediate pull toward it. As a therapist who works closely with trauma, anxiety, and nervous system dysregulation, I had seen how powerful talk therapy could be, yet I also knew that words sometimes weren’t enough. There were moments when clients could explain what they were going through, but their body still held on to the pain. I wanted a way to go deeper, to reach the places inside that felt “stuck.” That’s when I chose to attend Brainspotting training; one of the most impactful decisions in my professional and personal life.

What is Brainspotting? Brainspotting is a brain-based therapy discovered by Dr. David Grand. It works with the idea that where you look affects how you feel. By using eye positions, or “brainspots,” connected to areas of stored trauma or unresolved experiences, we can gently access the deeper parts of the brain where traditional talk therapy doesn’t always reach.

Instead of trying to think your way out of pain, Brainspotting helps the body and nervous system naturally process and release it.

In session, the process feels calm and supportive. Together, we identify what you’d like to work on, then use eye positioning and mindfulness to locate the brainspot. From there, the brain does what it’s designed to do… process and recover. Sometimes that looks like an emotional release, other times it’s more subtle, like a wave of calm or new clarity. Every experience is unique, but what I consistently see is relief, energy movement, and a deep exhale.

I’ve experienced the power of brainspotting myself, as a client. I used Brainspotting sessions to process my own stress, anxiety, and traumatic experiences… the shifts have been powerful. Situations that used to activate that anxious or unsettled feeling began to feel neutral. My body holds less tension. I feel more connected to myself, more present, and more empowered. Because I’ve felt those changes personally, I can guide clients through the process with complete trust in the work.

What I love most about Brainspotting is that it’s compassionate and respectful. It doesn’t force or rush healing. It honors the truth that recovery isn’t just about thinking differently it’s about allowing the body and nervous system to release what they’ve been holding.
